Contact your insurance company.
Ask them for a list of psychiatrists in your area who take your insurance.
Start calling them to see who is taking new patients.
Make an appointment with one who is taking new patients.
Go to the appointment.
Bring your insurance card.
Do not bring your mother.
Do not consent to have the doctor speak to your mother. Explain if necessary that she has poor boundaries and insists on going with you to your appts, and you do not want wish to continue this practice.
When you start to feel anxious about your mother's reaction, remind yourself that you are legally entitled to this privacy, and that this privacy between you and your doctor will ultimately result in a better working relationship with the doctor and ultimately better treatment.
Describe to the doctor your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors as appropriate. Answer questions honestly. Do not suggest any modes of treatment you are interested in before the doctor has had a chance to form an impression and plan.
Come to an agreement with the doctor on a plan of treatment.
Go to the pharmacy and fill your prescriptions, but do not hand them over to your mother.
Follow the treatment plan as agreed.
That's the best advice I can offer tonight. I'd love to hear what your counselor thinks about all this. Have you had a chance to talk to her about it yet?gg
