In reply to Day 1 on Nardil: Few questions, posted by 4WD on March 7, 2008, at 15:32:38
The brain zaps should be going away soon..they are awful..I would start treating the constipation right way..take a high fiber supplement every day..
You need to talk to your doctor about something for your anxiety..I don't know if you've ever taken clonazapam, but it works well for me..and talk to him about something for sleep as a lot of people get insomnia from Nardil..I take zopiclone..I was taking seroquel also but have been able to stop taking it..I think the insomnia is easing up for me..but it was bad at first..
I feel awful for you as you are in a bad spot right now..I went through the same thing when I had major surgery in September..had to go off parnate (long story why I'm on Nardil now) and then had to wait until I was no longer taking pain meds..
But with liberal use of clonazapam I was able to make it through..depression's bad enough without anxiety feeding into it..
I don't have hypotension from Nardil..I did really badly on Parnate. Maybe you won't get it either.
I read your other post about nicotine..I'm a heavy smoker also..I seem to smoke more on Nardil for some reason..I also drink a lot of coffee and it doesn't seem to bother me..nor does liberal amounts of chocolate..eeekk..
Please feel free to babblemail me any time you need to..I'll try to help you as much as I can..I know you probably still have a ton of questions..I know I did..it was scary for me to start Nardil, but I wish it had been the first AD not the last resort one..I hope it works for you..
I hope your doctor can help you get your anxiety under control..crying jags are no fun..I remember once I cried for 10 hours straight..
Be gentle with yourself during this transition and I'm here for you..

Hi.
>
> Yesterday was my first day on Nardil. The only side effect I have experienced is the constipation - started right away. And I woke up about 45 minutes earlier than usual this morning.
>
> Actually so far, I feel worse. I keep reminding myself I am basically not on an antidepressant - been off Celexa for over two weeks and Nardil not working yet but I feel horrible. The only reason I am able to post here is that I took half a Provigil about an hour and a half ago and that helped some.
>
> Qeustion one: When will the brain zaps from the Celexa washout go away? Is it normal to be still having them after over two weeks?
>
> Question two: Should I attack the side effects before they attack me? Should I start treating the constipation now? I took Glycolax, a (pardon me) stool softener this morning. I don't think it is going to be strong enough to do the job though.
>
> Question three: I already have low blood pressure. On a good day it is about 103/65. On a bad day 95/60. I there something I can do to raise my blood pressure before the Nardil hypotension sets in? Eat more salt? Is there a med out there that raises blood pressure?
>
> I could sure use some encouragement. I had a bad crying jag this morning and again about 2. Not just weepy, total despair.
