Actually, the working group for the eating disorders section of the DSM-V is likely to drop the amenorrhea criteria -- studies have shown that there's no relevant difference between those who experience amenorrhea and those who don't. So, call yourself anorexic -- I do, and had my period at a BMI of slightly less than 14.

I'm the one Maxie was referring to. I was on EMSAM for about ten weeks -- don't let the fact that it didn't work out for me worry you, I don't have typical reaction patterns with meds -- and at the beginning it was horrendous! I was ravenous, and spent much time crying and freaking out over it. That did go away -- and relatively quickly. I would have to search out my old posts and my old emails to check, but I think it was only the first two or three weeks before that went away.
It's worth sticking it out, because my pdoc is seeing really great results with it. He says everyone on it continues to see improved results for about the first twelve weeks -- and I trust him a great deal, think he's really great. He says that it may seem like a good antidepressant at six weeks, but by twelve weeks things are still getting even better for most of his patients.
By the way, you do know that restricting will impair the effectiveness of any anti-depressant? You need to be taking in sufficient carbohydrate for the tryptophan in your food to cross the blood-brain barrier. Without that, you can't synthesize enough serotonin to make much difference, and taking L-tryptophan isn't really an adequate substitute.
Good luck.
