In reply to Seeing PDoc Tues: Anx + Early Morning Awakening?, posted by nomadjones on February 29, 2008, at 9:32:33
> Hi All,
> I've been lurking here for quite awhile and am grateful for the information I've gotten (esp. concerning supplements).
> On Tuesday, I have a phone consult with my shrink in my old city that I haven't talked in about a year concerning meds for Anxiety and Early Morning Awakening. I am in a very stressful job (mean boss, pressure, and lots of small but important decisions) and catastrophize quite a bit about screwing up/losing the job, and wake up in the middle of the night with lots of anxiety and work through the day with lots of anxiety. Does anyone have any meds they would recommend for anxiety and early morning awakening that I could ask for on Tuesday? I'm a male in my 40's and weigh about 220 pounds. Incidentally, I've been seeing a psychologist for a couple of years.

> a. Clonazepam 0.5mg three times a day. I may ask for more.
> b. Xanax 0.5mg once per day (although I usually split it so I have more coverage). May ask for more Xanax.
> c. Supplements: Mg, Niacinamide, Taurine, B6, B1, B-50 (too much makes me nervous).

> In the past, for depression and anxiety, I've taken Zoloft and Wellbutrin, but don't want to go back to those (snoring and I'm considering adoption overseas that STRONGLY frowns on having depression). I'm taking St. John's Wort and occasionally 5HTP.

> b. Temazepam 50mg (had some left over from GP) that I take at 330-4am, but it takes awhile to kick in and only gets me through a couple of hours more of sleep.
> c. Various stuff taken irregularly: Xanax, melatonin (regular and extended release), benadryl (prolongs sleep by about an hour), and alcohol (not a good idea).

You can push the dose of trazadone up and see if that helps and/or a larger dose of klonopin at night. You may have an underlying depression and may need to be on another antidepressant such as SSRI or SNRI. Do you have time to exercise on a regular basis? AS far as criteria for adopting, you can get around that with the help of your doctor. I guess if anyone considering adoption takes an AD for chronic pain, will have trouble adopting too? Kind of makes me sick. I would stronly frown on the process if stigma and ignorance got in the way just because someone has a diagnosis of depression. Kind of makes me sick. Don't ya think so?PB :)
