Oh good grief, Luvox CR. First it was dumped to generic like a hot potato most likely because of bad press because one of the Columbine assailants happened to be depressed and took Luvox (at least my theory, and perhaps low sales too), and now they want another patent.
How about novel agents ? [soapbox off] Of course, there's always the question, maybe it will help me better, but for the most part SSRI CRs haven't really done anything too much more than their original. Wellbutrin extended is one exception I would put because it does reduce seizure potential.
As for the Deplin -- there are a lot of medical foods, including one that was out there for TD (Tarvil - BCAAs, branched chain amino acids. Although you can buy BCAAs, at least at the time. I tried them just for preventative sake but they were really just placebos I think. Who knows. There are other vitamin reasons for BCAAs as well). They are little known in most practicing psychiatrists' circles maybe because they're small market but also because the evidence based psychiatry is small, the studies are rather small. That's not to say the other kind of little heard drugs are very important -- orphan medication, a special class of medications that the FDA has fast-tracked and do carry various risks of course, for rare disorders (more than 9000 of them exist I think), such as Huntingtons and others.
