I'm currently taking 150mg of Seoquel (50mg morning / 100mg evening) and I really don't think it has helped my anxiety at all. I've been on 10mg Cipralex (Escitalorpram) for the last three & a half weeks and it is only now that my panic and anxiety has started to get slightly better.
I'm firmly putting my recovery (albeit a slow one) down to the Cipralex. I don't think the Seroquel has helped in the slightest. I was on Seroquel for around four weeks before I started the Cipralex and it didn't do a thing.
However, I have read, numerous times, on this site that Seroquel has really helped some people. Just because it hasn't helped me doesn't necessarily mean it won't help your son. We are all different and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another (and vice versa).
The only way you will really know is to give the Seroquel a fair go. Antipsychotic medications tend to take 'days' to work rather than 'weeks' like antidepressants do. If after, say, seven days you don't see any benefit, go back to your doctor and get him to raise the dose - 50mg is a really low dose of Seroquel. I have heard that to have any really effect on Dopamine levels within the brain, Seoquel needs to be taken at a minimum of 150-200mg.
If you get no joy with the Seroquel, you could try something like Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Again, it's something that a lot of people on here seem to find really effective for symptoms similar to your son's. Not sure what your son has tried, but have you thought of trying any of the SSRIs? They seem to be the first line of treatment; and just maybe what will really help your son.
Best of luck!!
