> I finally found the right cocktail and I feel good, I'm stabile but on a lot of meds, Lithium, risperdal, lamictal, effexor and now topamax to try for weight loss. I've gained 60 pounds and have been on Weight watchers a month and 1/2 w/ no weight loss. I eat healthier, and work out 4 times a week. I tip the scales at 217 for 5/8. Should I just except it or is there something else I can do, its been years of trying to find the right meds and I don't want to switch. What should I do
You shouldn't get rid of anything if the drugs are working, but obesity, especially from massive carbohydrate consumption, is a big health issue; you should at least talk to your GP about it and get a full work-up, because there could be problems unrelated to psychiatric issues.
Topamax can be a good diet drug, but stimulants (e.g., phentermine), serotonergics (sibutrimine or megadose 5-HTP), and orlistat shouldn't be excluded, and may work better in unison. Thermogenics work, but they're not prescription drugs or known by most doctors, so you'd have to do some self-research.
Finally, you might try switching to a ketogenic (high-protein, low-carbohydrate) diet if Weight Watchers is not doing anything for you.
