In reply to Mood Stabilizers Increase Risk of Suicide..., posted by Maximus on February 6, 2008, at 11:41:09
Well, this is not news to me or many of us. We see it all the time. It takes a while for the mainstream world to catch up to the real world.
Indeed psych meds help some people tremendously. We see that happen right here. We also see them completely devastate other people. It is almost always blamed on the illness and not the drug. Almost as if because the med was given a name ANTI-depressant then there is no way it could cause depression. Or mood STABILIZER. For some yeah. For others, how about a mood destabilizer down to the depths of hell. The drugs can do both.
All I know is that despite my dedicated efforts, close to 99% of antidepressants or mood stabilizers make me feel much worse. No change or numb is about the best it gets.
Makes me wonder why they don't focus on other things more besides neurotransmitters and calcium channels. There is obviously a lot more going on. I personally feel that the thyroid and cortisol hormones, as well as the intricate link between the pituitary, thyroid, and hypothalamus, are major culprits in psych symptoms. Or the limbic system needs some stimulation. Stuff like that.
One lady in a Cymbalta clinical trial was not depressed and had no history of it. She was in the trial for a different condition. She hung herself part way through the trial.
