In reply to List Of Possible Treatments For Tardive Akathisia, posted by fenix on November 27, 2007, at 10:37:42
Hi fenix,
I'm sorry if you are still experience TA symptomology. I have a question about your list and a suggestion.
The question has to do with benztropine. Specifically, I remember that someone posted in a similar thread that anticholinergics might mask TA, but in make the long-term symptoms worse. I have not found any confirmation of this assertion elsewhere and was wondering whether you had any thoughts on it.
The suggestion for treating TA is carbamazepine/Tegretol. I have come across case reports of its success in this regard. Also, I suspect that I may have TA myself and responded very well to Tegretol during a 3 month trial. Unfortunately, I had to discontinue due to an allergic reaction, so I can't speak as to it's long-run effectiveness.
Good luck,
