Hi all,
My pain doc wrote me a script of Wellbutrin (bupropion) against neuropathic pain.
I am a bit anxious to use this because I also use (of course with the acknowledgement of my paindoctor) prozac (20 mgs daily) and tramadol (80-130 mgs daily).
I know tramadol plus bupropion multiply the risk of seizures; prozac and tramadol increase the risk of a serotonin syndrome (which it didn't till now fortunately (I have been using tramadol concurrently with Prozac the last 6 years). Prozac plus bupropion can elevate levels of both.Next to pain trouble I am having difficulty concentrating and memorizing (e.g. I flunked a beginners bookkeeping course at my job (having been to college at one time in my life)).
I am very inclined to apathy, my job is hard to handle for me at many times, I have no sexual feelings whatsoever (for 15+ years (as long as I take ssri’s)).
For these reasons I really would like to try a med that targets dopamine and/or norepinephrine receptors because I am aware prozac may cause a lot of the trouble (next to a level of depression).
P-docs in my country (the Netherlands) I consulted don’t want to help me with these medication issues (one doesn’t “believe” in medication, others don’t because they argue “they don’t consider this to be “question of help””).Now last Sunday (a week ago) I took the plunge and started Wellbutrin XR (150 mgs once daily, like prescribed).
I had some headache (which went away), experienced till now confusion and anxiousness, I stayed at home even more than I would, I had a few sleepless night (for which even sleeping pills (nitrazepam (Mogadon) wouldn’t help) my heart rate went up (but not much) and I have the feeling that my blood pressure is (slightly) higher but and this is positive I also feel more “awake” (not the zombie feeling).
Because of all these side-effects and hesitations (about the combination I take) I skipped the Wellbutrin yesterday and continued this morning (although not having taken W. I still had I bad night so I rose early).
I am glad the pure fysical effects are a lot better now.
Reading the many posts lately about Trivastal I am seriously considering trying this later if the side effects of Wellbutrin don't subside.I would like to ask to you: how long can it take for the Wellbutrin to work properly and the side effects to level out.
Am I on the right track to continue Wellbutrin and not take Trivastal instead ?
My paindoctor probably will not have heard/read about Trivastal (as it isn’t available here) and I am not seeing him again until April.
(If Wellbutrin doesn’t work out for me I am even after solid inquiries willing to try Trivastal on my own.)
How does Trivastal compare to Wellbutrin side-effects wise ?
Does Trivastal cause feelings of irration ?
Can Wellbutrin or Trivastal work as ‘prosocial’ drugs (like Lyrica could be)?Thank you in advance, wishing you all well,
Robert35
NB I am insured (like almost everyone here) but I am even willing to pay to go to a private clinic of some sort; as far as I know there are no psychiatric private clinics here.
