Though effexor has reuptake action on serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, it is mostly serotonin at low doses. Medium doses it adds in more norepinephrine. At high doses it adds in more dopamine. Rough guess is you might be feeling the added boost of a bit more dopamine. At your previous dose you were getting a lot of serotonin, a bit of norepinephrine, and a smidgen of dopamine. Now you are getting more all three, except with a stronger influence on dopamine than you ever got an any of the lower doses.
There are clinical studies that show early response is generally predictive of good longterm outcome. No guarantee, but it is in your favor.
No one really knows how these drugs work. As long as it works, cool.
