Researchers are finding that obstructive sleep apnea can cause the secondary form of hypogonadism (low testosterone) in men. Treatment of sleep apnea with CPAP can reverse or partially reverse this secondary hypogonadism, which can improve mood, anxiety and cognition in men.

"Objective: To elucidate the causes for the decline in testosterone levels observed in men with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)."
"CONCLUSIONS: OSA in men is associated with dysfunction of the pituitarygonadal
axis. The central suppression of nocturnal testosterone in these
patients is partially corrected during chronic CPAP treatment."http://www.nel.edu/pdf_/24_6/NEL240603A14_Luboshitzky_.pdf
"Palmer, Alaska: What is the connection between sleep apnea and low hypogonadism?
Dr. André Guay: Sleep apnea causes low oxygen in the blood, which then inhibits the pituitary from sending signals to the testicle. This results in low testosterone production. This is often correctable with treatment of the sleep apnea."
