Try looking up the discussion here at PB on beta blockers and stimulants, etc....It went into great detail about the cadioselective types; ones that cross blood brain barrier..
I only take Metoprolol cuz my thyroidmed was raised and caused an uncomfortable heart beating. My hubby was on Lopressor (Metoprolol). His dr said they used it for stage fright......
My hubby weaned off the metoprolol after reading the stuff here that I found....His bp was just borderline......His dr added a diuretic..But he stopped lopressor/meoprolol and his bp has never been lower.
I think the metoprolol favors beta 1 more than beta2 (or the other way around) anyhow, it allows the alpha to go UNopposed so it may trigger a racey heartbeat if u stop it abruptly OR cannot tolerate sudaphed (pseudoephedrine: nasal decongestant) My hubby always got real jumpy and restless with that stuff LONG before he had borderlineBP or took metoprolol.
florence> I've tried Lexapro on 4 different occasions. I keep trying it because for the short time I can tolerate the drug, I feel it helping my depression immensly.

A friend of mine told me that Pindolol, another beta blocker turns off the Serotonin autoreceptor and allows Serotonin to flood the synaptic gateways. He isn't sure if this holds true to Metoprolol, but if it does, I can stop the metoprolol, as I only took it for panic attacks, which I don't even get anymore, I just have GAD without panic.
