Proton pump inhibitors work differently than H2 blockade agents and take up to two weeks to really be effective. Combined with antibiotics (as we now know the source of ulcers ultimately) they are used as a one-two punch against H. pylori. Now check with your doctor(s) though that Prilosec doesn't interfere with your other medication. There are other prescription proton pump inhibitors.
