Another study linking low SERT to depresison/ptsd

Posted by linkadge on December 16, 2007, at 21:55:28

A number of studies in the past few years have sought to determine a relationship between sertoin transporter varients, and likelyhood of depresion development. The following (recent) study, seems to confirm previous findings that the low acting varient of the serotonin transporter is associated with the development of depression after stresfull events.

I think such repeated findings are interesting on account of the fact that most researchers were hoping to find the opposite relationship. Ie overactive varients of the serotonin transporter being responsible for the development of depression/PTSD. This would fit neatly with SSRI drug mechanisms.
