Why question it, as long as you're getting the effect you want, that's all that matters. You have been on it a long time. Maybe your body can no longer metabolize it as it once did. You may be better as you decrease it. It is obviously no longer effective at the dose you were taking it at for so long. 15 is a better place to be, maybe even 10 might be.
I would thank my lucky stars if i was able to wean off of it or keep it at a low dose and get some benefit from it.
Are you happy with it allowing you to get more sleep? You must be. I wouldn't get so caught up with the rationale behind it. Those kind of explanations will just make it more confusing for you and you will obsess about what it is doing.
I approach the meds alot more simplistically, they either give you good effects or not. I don't really want the neuroscience and rationale behind something that no one really understands. That is for the experts to figure out, if there are any. My own choice of meds has had a better shot at working than my pdocs, so what does that tell you?
