Very true, I have adopted a different attitude in the last few years. I used to totally depend on my doctor for what drug to try next,even though I would mention one or two options, his suggestion always won out over mine since I deferred to his opinion. Now if I'm really struggling, I research and research until I come up with a few good options and present them to him, articles are the best way to document your findings.
This last year I pushed for and got a second opinion, a referral to an expert researcher in depression (thanks to Ugottahavehope who's doc made a recommendation) and I went back on MAO's which had worked for me many years ago but my pdoc had bypassed for multiple trials of newer meds which did nothing for me.
I'm not an expert but it does feel good to be able to bring something new to the table based on your own suggestions of what to try next. Only a secure MD can allow you to do this but it is extremely helpful.
