Hi all,
So I currently take 600 mg of trileptal per day at bedtime. I also take 20 mg of adderall XR in the mornings, and 15 mg of mirtazapine at bedtime. I have some seroquel on reserve in case of acute mania, but I haven't had to use it recently.
I have read that Trileptal can be responsible for concentration difficulties. I have been taking it for over a year, but at this point I have no idea what is causing what, especially since my ADD is constantly making my life rough. I am a phd student and consequently my ability to focus on complicated material for long periods of time is fairly important.
My question is this: sure Trileptal causes concentration difficulties, but does it do it signficantly more than other mood stabiliers? Would it be worth spending political capital with the psychiatrist to possibly change it? I was thinking maybe Lamictal would be better, but not if it causes significant side effects. Trileptal is definately better than no mood stabilizer -- I guess I am just trying to get a sense for how much the Trileptal might be contributing to mental cloudiness, and of that, how much better I could possibly do on another mood stabilizer.
Switching mood stabilizers is obviously a hastle since I'd have to go off the Adderall and mirtazapine while changing, so it couldn't just be on a whim. And if I go into my psychiatrist next week rambling like this, he might just think I am mentally ill :/
