I don't know what that muscle pain stuff is. I've had it too and know what you mean. For me some of it has been permanent, even a year after being off meds, and is usually very mild or absent except that it is easily brought back by stupid things like B vitamins.
Some theories on what's going on...
1)Some kind of interference in the dopamine system. If true, then a dopamine agonist might help.
2)Some kind of interference in the norepinephrine system. If so, then a norepinephrine med might help. I know last time I tried ssris I got those muscle pains and I added a mere 3mg cymbalta and it miraculously and swiftly ended the pains.
3)Some kind of detoxifying effect of the ssri. If you are toxic with something such as candida, parasites, or chemicals, some drugs can act as detoxifiers and you feel weird things like muscle pains as the detox gets going. If so, it could clear up in a couple weeks or maybe 3 months...for me on prozac it took 3 months for those pains to go away.
4)Heavy metal toxicity. Many drugs, depending on their sulfur content and other unknown mechanisms, can stir up lead and mercury that are stored in tissues. As those metals are stirred up out of their hiding places all kinds of weird things neuromuscular can happen.
5)Liver function is out of balance...by that I mean Phase I is breaking down things too fast for Phase II to keep up with, and dumping all kinds of overflow back into you. A regular liver test won't show this. There is a special test alternative docs use to see how your Phase I and Phase II are working, and then there are simple things you can take such as grapefruit juice, niacinimide, and milk thistle to tweek those Phases in the desired direction.
