I remember that. Those theories have since been disproven. The toxicities had something to do with contaminated batches and other confounding factors with the people involved. The number of cases involved were few, but as usual the media, pharmaceutical, and medical communities went into overdrive to shoot down a natural competitor to their high priced powerful drugs, which are more proven than kava kava to not be friendly to the liver.
