In reply to Med Induced Respiratory Depression, Anyone?, posted by Brody on October 27, 2007, at 23:46:34
Yes! I get to keep my EMSAM patch!
I just had my pulmonary function test and I do have asthma. Who would have thought that would be good news?
It isn't severe (yet), and my lungs responded well to the inhaled medicine.
The tech said he has oftentimes seen asthma come on later in life due to barn work: the sawdust, the hay, the dander, the mold, etc. It takes its toll over time.
The reason it became so acute was the record heat and humidity this summer, and then the traumatic back injury.
(The pulmonary tech was in disbelief that my doctor didn't order an x-ray. He feels they take a lot of shortcuts these days due to expense.)
Of course, the last several days I got all upset over not being able to breathe, which caused the breathing problem to worsen (hyperventilating). Then I was afraid to treat the anxiety by taking Xanax because of what I read about benzos and respiratory depression. Snowball effect...
All added up, it just got worse by the hour.
Thank you all for your posts.... they were very much appreciated.
