I'm not sure if this is exactly the sort of answer you're looking for, but I know of a few people who have 'recovered' with the use of meds.

One of them is my mother, who used prozac to cope with the loss of her mother. It helped her alot & after 8 months she came off it. She's been fine ever since. The other cases I know of are similar stories. Obviously these people were either treating a single (one-off) bout of depression, or the depression was caused by a life stress (ie. loosing a loved one).

Unfortunitely, for many of us our symptoms are more permanent & so need permanent treatment.

On a more positive note though, I FIRMLY believe that medicine can help ANYONE. You just need to find (& have access to) the right ones. This belief is what keeps me pushing on, even when I'm at my lowest of lows. Therapy is also important. Combining the 2 IMO is better than either alone.
