I knew when my pdoc recommended increases in the low dose atypicals, I avoided doing this for a reason. Not only was it my fear of TD but the use of ever new and expensive meds for my condition that doesn't involve any psychotic or delusional aspects of depression. Off-label use for other conditions than psychosis is generating lots of $$$ for the drug companies.
The pdocs are using those meds like candy and for all of the known and unknown side effects, putting their pts at risk of long term effects.
This goes along with my belief that there are too many drugs available to try and by trying them all, mostly what is lost is your time and money, depending on whether or not you have insurance.
I reached a point where I refused to take any AP's because they were not doing anything at low levels, and my refusal to increase the dose. I think my skepticism will be proven in time.
Back to Nardil and Nortriptylline, dirt cheap meds, effective for me.
But you are lead to believe unless you try all the various meds recommended by your pdoc you never know if they will work or not, so you get on that med rollercoaster and hope for the best.
Still waiting for a test or way to know what meds have the best chance of working, rather than creating more meds to try.
