I've taken lithium for a long time; side effects
are typically thyroid function suppression, thirst,
frequent urination, weight gain, diarrhea, and the need for occasional or frequent blood test, and dose monitoring.
As for cognitive effects, i have always said that lithium is like aspirin. That's why i will never switch for another mood stabilizer.
