> I've only been on parnate for about a week or so, and the diet hasn't been a problem at all. But I was just curious, and a bit concerned- since it takes weeks for the MAO inhibition to start, does that mean once it does, you have to be more careful with the diet restrictions? (i.e, more particular in what you eat, how much of it you eat, ect)
>I've never taken parnate. I took Nardil for several years. My advice: Do NOT screw around with the dietary restrictions. Aim for zero tyramine. You could easily have one or more small strokes and not notice any acute symptoms, other than perhaps a headache.
Some more advice: I had a lot of temptations to "try a little" or whatever. One day I was throwing out old books and came across and ancient copy of "I'm Okay, You're Okay", and the following thought popped into my head:
Trying to see how much I could bend the "rules" for taking an MAOI was the behavior of a child. But these aren't arbitrary rules. Tyramine, at some unknown dose, is going to be harmful to my body. The best thing I could do for myself was go into "parent" or at least "adult" mode concerning dietary and drug restrictions.
