I went to the pharmacy today to pick up my refill of the Parnate. This would be now be the second or third time I've had it refilled and had always requested the brand (and my insurance always paid for it, since there isn't too much of price difference between the brand and generic).
However, the pharmacist told me today that the brand had been discontinued and that from now on, only the generic would be available.
So I called Glaxo-Smith and asked them whether Parnate had in fact been discontinued and the rep told me that it had not been; it is absolutely still being manufactured.
So anyway, I called the pharmacy and told them that they're mistaken and the pharmacist is going to check and get back to me. I think that their distributer essentially ran out of the med and doesn't want to have to bother with re-ordering the brand version, since they have the generic stock. At least that's what I suspect.
But in the meantime, can I be 100% positive that there's no difference between the brand and the generic versions?
I guess I've been reading about a similar flap with regard to Nardil on this board and am a bit concerned since the Parnate (the brand version) seems to be working for me.
