For the whole of last week I was on a course of 5-HTP--I wasn't taking any other drugs or supplements. In fact I'm not usually on pharmaceuticals.
I was doing 50/day spead out in two doses or more throughout the day. Obviously libido, who's already down in the dumps, went even lower, I became less motivated, and felt down while I was on it. At the end of the week seeing it wasn't helping me at all, I went cold turkey.
Now this week, I'm not on anything, but I've noticed a severe increase in anxiety and at times near panic attacks. This morning I woke up at 5 AM from palpitations--those are supraventricular ectopy, and was told they're not to be concerned about.
Anyway, am I the only one who noticed increased anxiety after going off 5-HTP ?
I'd very much appreciate to hear from those who experience likwise reaction to it.
What could have caused it ?
5-HTP increases PRL
At 100 mg I know it'll increase Cortisol release, but then I was below that. Who knows, maybe it did increase Cortisol.
5-HTP will also inhibit production of DA neurons as both are joined at the hip in production.
I also know that oversedation can cause the brain to release more Norpinephrine, probably as a homeostatic mechanism.
I'm trying to figure out why it does that.
Best,
Marc
