I don't know anything definitive, but when I say I'm experiencing anxiety, it generally has an element of fear or dread to it which isn't present when I say I'm experiencing agitation. Agitation is usually more about restlessness, being unable to settle down, or sometimes angry and unable to get myself onto another track, or just being -- well, agitated...

Anxiety, though, is definitely related to adrenaline for me. Lots and lots of adrenaline...

That's one thought on the differences...
