Well, all the serotinergic ADs have been known to cause weight gain in some people. Wellbutrin is generally weight neutral, although that doesn't mean that it will counteract weight gain from another med. It is used, though, to help control weight gain from other ADs.

There are a number of meds out there that are being studied for their effects on weight gain. You might check Medscape to see if you can find some recent studies about Zyprexa induced weight gain. Could be there's something showing great promise.

The two I know of that are being studied are Topomax, and Glucophage. Both come with their own set of problems, though, so it's not a simple decision to make. It's well worth discussing your options with your doctor.

For me, I have a really hard time when people say, "Oh, as long as the medication is working, don't worry about the weight gain." So, I'm torn between saying, "Well, if the medication is working, it's worth trying to find a drug that counters the weight gain," and saying, "Aw, heck -- if it's causing weight gain, it isn't worth it." That's a personal question we all have to answer for ourselves. I wanted to say that, so that you'd know that I can empathize with you on this issue. No judgment, and I hope you can find your own solution that works for you.

By the way, a quick scan of Medscape shows that Zyprexa and Prozac seems to increase the likelihood of long term weight gain. There is something about sibutramine and about reboxetine as counter agents.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
