I doubt you'd like Zoloft -- it tends to be more on the activating side. You've already taken the more sedating SSRIs, so maybe it's time to look at some other options?
Since you bring up anxiety as the primary concern, has your doctor mentioned any of the newer anti-psychotics? They are often great for anxiety, and don't have the tolerance issues that benzodiazepines have. And no, taking an AP does not imply that you're psychotic. The older APs were actually called "heavy tranquilizers" back in the day...
Other antidepressants which can help helpful for anxiety are some of the older tricyclic antidepressants, like nortriptyline, desipramine, amitriptyline, etc; Remeron; Cymbalta, which is related to Effexor, but different enough it's probably worth trying; and no doubt I'm forgetting some other options. There really are so many options, though, that it would be well worth discussing them with your doctor.
And, then again, there's also the option of a low dose of any antidepressant which is effective for you, combined with medication specifically prescribed for the anxiety. Benzos work for many people, but I'd say try Buspar first. Many people who have experience with benzos don't like Buspar, but I found it much more effective for me. Unfortunately, it also increased my depression, so it didn't work out. It's worth a try, though. And if it doesn't work, there are always benzos...
Good luck!
