You might try stimulants like Adderall or Concerta. It probalby sounds insane for anxiety but they actually have a calming focusing effect. They are a bit tricky because they often loose umph over time but if you don't chase the high that they often initially provide, they can be very beneficial. My personal experience with them, and I'm insanely sensetive to drugs, is that when I take them in the morning, I often get pretty anxious for the next 1/2 hour or so and then I calm down considerably. They can tend to give you sort of an emotional rollercoaster ride but for many people, they are great. Very fast acting, you'll feel the effects immediately.

Otherwise you might look at things like Buspar, Abilify or some of the TCAs. Nardil is supposed to be very calming since it works on GABA and the same with Neurontin.

Benzos loose their effect over time and can some times add to depression. In my experience, they are a very weak answer to anxiety which I struggle with imensly.

> Thanks for your helpful response. I'm on 750 mg of lithium now, and while it's been great for my depression, it hasn't helped with anxiety, which appears to be the Holy Grail of mood problems, meaning that no one can get ahold of it. EMSAM doesn't treat my anxiety well enough, though it helps some. I guess I'll just have to keep experimenting. I may go back to a low dose of Risperidal. Who knows. I'll just put my energies on getting through the day.--Johann

Short lived effects though in my experience. But if you take it several times a day it may work well and also have an antidepresant effect. I'm currently trying a small dose of Lithium and so far it's very good. Slows things down without being tired. Lithium has a 24hr half life.
