SSRIs and hormones (Wow)

Posted by esokev on April 13, 2007, at 12:55:12

I have a twin brother who takes them same medication regime as myself (100 MG of Zoloft daily) He as also had the same issues... We started the meds at the same time, and both have experienced extreme weight gain... So he had EVERY hormone checked, and compared it to pre-SSRI hormone tests that he had 1 month before starting treatment. When we got the results back we were shocked. He has NO growth hormone left whatsoever, his Cortisol is TWICE as high as the maximum in the range, and his fasting blood sugar was in the pre-diabetic range... Why hasn't there been more research in the hormone department? It could explain some of the symptoms of withdrawal. People who have Cushings Syndrome (excess cortisol) and suddenly have excess cortisol removed after treatment go through horrible withdrawal symptoms (to avoid this they must be given prednisone and tapered off of it very slowly.) Any thoughts?
