In reply to Reducing 1.25 mg Zyprexa to Zero - How best to do?, posted by ronaldo on March 11, 2007, at 7:29:49
I think you're ready. I agree with you that splitting doses is difficult. It may just prolong the agony.
Consider stopping it altogether. Be prepared for anxiety, maybe some unexplained fear, maybe some black cloud moods, some tough days, and bad sleep. As long as you know those things are coming, and that they will be temporary, they can be recognized and seen for what they are...withdrawals. Not some frieky new disorder that has popped up out of nowhere. If the going gets real tough, go ahead and take 1.25mg one night. Skip a few more days. Tough it out, but don't view 1.25mg every now and then as a set-back. I had a difficult time after my final zyprexa dose and fell back on a stepping-stone 1.25mg dose once, about a week after the final stoppage. I probably could have made it without it but that particular day had me in a very anxiety provoking environment that really exaggerated everything. Zyprexa brought welcome relief that one day, and then everything was actually easier in following days.
The whole process to get through the anxiety, sleep, fearfulness, depression stuff that I dealt with as a result of stopping zyprexa took about 6 weeks. I did use 25mg xanax 3 or 4 random times. Took benadryl for sleep for about a week at one point.
It was not easy but it can be done and I'm so glad it is behind me. I knew I was over the hump when my shaking hands became still, and when I slept 7 decent hours instead of 3. Those things took about 2 weeks.
