cortisol levels: paxil vs cymbalta

Posted by shadowmon on February 25, 2007, at 21:50:31

I've been on paxil (regular and CR) for about 6 years off and on. I'm doing good, and I feel that I am in remission.

However, I've gained 50 lbs and am not happy about it. With this weight gain, I have also been diagnosed with type II diabetes.

I feel like I am in a catch 22, take the paxil and still be fat, but not depressed and have the diabetes, or to try something else and possibly lose some weight. But I'm very scared.

I tried once to go to lexapro. It did NOT work. I tried the tapering down thing and I ended up so sick due to withdrawals the anxiety triggered another depressive episode. And then, to top it off the lexapro didnt work. I was non functional for about 3 months.

So, I'm thinking about cymbalta. Does anyone know what kind of cortisol reaction they have had with it? I am curious to see if this is just as bad as what I am on now.

Since it's another SSRI, do I have to do the come off it first and then go on the cymbalta?

Anyone take paxil and cymbalta (at different times) how did it work for you? any information would be helpful.

Also, is there any treatment for elevated cortisol levels??

//right now on paxil cr 25-50 mg
/trazodone 50mg at night
