You can check out the website of a lot of chain restaurants and view the menu and often the ingredients. Doing that would let you pick something out in advance. I often tend to stick with the same thing that I've found to be safe when I return to a restaurant. I also carry a business card with the main MAOI restrictions printed on it. I almost always hand that to the waitperson when I order and ask them to check with the chef/cook before putting my order in. I try to have a back up selection ready in case they nix it. It's usually not hard to have them do something without cheese or without a sauce or something, too. Only two service folks were difficult, and I've been taking an MAOI for at least 3 years now.
Good luck.
