I am not sure I agree with the answer posted above.
Have you checked out the thyroid tips on this site? There used to be posts about this from "Noa" who constantly reminded us that antidepressants won't work if your thyroid isn't under control.
It took me over 20 yrs and dozens of drs to FINALLY find one who ran all the right tests and diagnosed me with Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroiditis.
I thought you had that, too Philippa?
I take Armour thyroid and am still not improved. I am bed-ridden. Even had ECT- a mistake since one of the hospitals would not even do it if you had thyroid disease. wasnt thinking clearly...I was taking Provigil to try and get me some energy; it helped for awhile- then had anxiety/depression when it wore off...NOW I am trying to wean off the Provigil and the Xanax and Klonopin.....which I now know may be causing my fatigue and insomnia because I have taken these meds for several yrs...Thought my pdoc was smarter than that: she tried everything to help and was open to new ideas; very intelligent, too.
So I have taken all the stimulants out there: never felt much improvement-- only the side effects..
Trying to find some strength to look into thyroid resistance since my TSH is very low and my free T3 is very high...It just isnt getting into my cells..
This is just my opinion....But I have researched this alot....Are you familiar with Dr Peter Whybrow at UCLA? He is an MD who researches mood disorders and thyroid; alot is about bipolar. His associate is named Bauer. They have written extensively on the subject.
I'll try to get back to u again.. You are always so positive and uplifting... It's nearly 530 am so I should try and sleep... Klonopin wore off hrs ago..But Lexapro should keep me asleep til 3 or 4pm.... Sorry, i'm really sick of dreading each day..it's been yrs and I seem to get worse.
