My package insert from both the manufacturer's sample kit as well as the print out pharmacy both warned that suddenly stopping lamictal could cause seizures in people who have never had them before. Psychiatrist warned the same. They didn't say "every time", they warned it as a possible danger. It is an anticonvulsant.
