Prescription amphetamines don't cause anxiety for lots of people when taken as prescribed. You'd be surprised. They can be calming, surprisingly. Perhaps different people react differently, or maybe it's the dosage that makes the difference. I've tried provigil, ritalin, dexedrine, and adderall, and my conclusion was that at least for me, provigil did the least of any of them for ADD (though it was good for wakefulness). It did about zero for me for motivation- I was still unmotivated, just more awake. But yes, more awake meant more alert. It was very good for that.
