Levaquin problem?

Posted by Bob on December 12, 2006, at 18:29:48

I started taking the antibiotic Levaquin about 4 days ago in response to a low-level persistent sinus -type infection. I've noticed that I am definitely experiencing psychological side effects, such as increased depression, anxiety, and subtle agitation/restlessness. I did a little research on the net, and have discovered that the quinolone family of drugs, which includes Cipro and Levaquin among others, can have these type of effects and worse. There are even claims that these things can become nasty and permanent in a select few.

My question is, does anyone here think it unwise to take such an antibiotic when I already suffer from anxiety and depression, or is it an overblown concern and if I burn through it I will feel better? It's not like I haven't taken countless psychotropics that had far worse effects Besides, my doctor prescribed it, and he is quite familiar with my condition. He was originally going to give me something in the penicillin family, but changed his mind since I had a reaction in childhood to that med.
