Taking benadryl or a benzodiazepine for a while to help can actually make things more confusing simply because they will minimize the akathisia side-effects to the extent that you might think it has disappeared, when it actually still remains and can develop into a more severe form of it.
You think your akathisia is scary? Imagine having it 24/7 for 3 years. That is what I have had to go through so far. Heed my advice, you don't want to go down to that kind of a hell, get off of that drug slowly with your doctor and try something else.
