> "Loneliness" and "insecurity" are more accurate and meaningful terms for the condition corporate medicine would have us treat with SSRIs such as Prozac. More realistic terminology would point all concerned towards prevention strategies. Nothing could be further from the interests of the drug companies.Hello river,
We live in an age where there is a little pill for whatever ails us....the drug companies are cashing in big time. Alternatives like talking therapies are generally too expensive and too time consuming. The trouble is pdocs do not have enough time with their patients to make an accurate dx and an appropriate rx. One solution is boards like psychobabble where patients can diagnose themselves with the help of their fellow patients and investigate all the appropriate remedies. In this way patients assist their pdocs by presenting a dx(s) and rx(s) for the pdoc to consider.
The patient has also educated him/herself in his/her disease and can communicate better with the pdoc.
You are absolutely right when you say:
>More realistic terminology would point all concerned towards prevention strategies.
Prevention is better than cure, close the stable door before the horse bolts etc etc...
Loneliness and insecurity are two major causes of mental illness. Insecurity often causes loneliness. People are lonely due to their insecurity. I am lonely because I am too insecure to go out and mix with people.... This board is the closest I get to mixing socially.
In what way, river, do you consider 'loneliness' and 'insecurity' to be unrealistic terminology?
Would you prefer more technical language like we find in the reports on clinical trials? What words would you substitute for LONELINESS and INSECURITY?I think I see now... The big drug companies are clothing themselves in the language of everyday people about their everday business and by so doing they are selling more of their little pills.
If they used more technical language like say 'avolition' then they wouldn't sell as much.
This hole is getting deeper and deeper. I think I better stop. :-)
