I would definitely take that extra step of going to 75mg for one or two weeks. I believe the main reason for this gradual titration is the risk of that bad skin rash - which is very serious but I can't remember the name of it - but also I found that as the Lamictal dosage was raised I was more likely to get a headache during an adjustment period. These headaches were intractable? untreatable? something that would not respond to any over the counter pain medication. They subsided after a few days at the higher dosage.
(I take 400mg/day now, having ramped up over the past 6 months from 200 mg/day, which was barely therapeutic for me. It is working well for me currently.)
