Neuropathic Pain, what works?

Posted by sregan on October 27, 2006, at 22:12:17

I've been having discomfort/pain on the left side of my body on and off for a while. The left pelvic area where I can feel nothing but bone then just above like a cramp in the side you get from running. I recently tried a couple of TCAs and noticed the pain wasn't as bad. I believe low NE is thought to be a factor in "neuropathic pain" and drugs like TCAs and Effexor, Cymbalta address the pain issue by upregulating NE.

There is also the Fibromyalgia group who think low dopamine is responsible (and the CFS group who think high NO is responsible).

Whatever the pharmacology the reasoning is that the sensitivity to pain is higher due to the specific neurotransmitter. Turning it up reduces the perception of pain.

I've read that Lyrica, Neurotin and Baclofen are helpful for this condition. Interesting that they are all work GABA like instead of working with NE or DA?
