Beta blockers make me feel like I'm in a fog, maybe even a depressed fog. My current doc won't prescribe one for me because my normal pulse is 45 and she feels it really doesn't need to be slower. :>} But beta blockers do work better than benzos for a pounding heart. If you try a benzo, I'd try Xanax-I think you need a lot of soothing to keeep the heart from pumping loudly- panic disorder guys use it for just that on a regular basis.
