Mania is less about what you are doing, and more about how you feel. People can be disorganized and hyperactive yet not have a markedly elevated mood, ie no change in affect, and therefore not really manic.

The two are often confused, but I guess the acid test is whether a stimulant does more for you than a mood stabilizer.

It could be a comorbidity in which case, a combination of mood stabilizer and stimulant may be the best option (?)
