Well, they are antiseizure medications, but a large number of people seem to use them off-label for "cognitive enhancement."

For that, they seem to be effective in many people. However, from what I've read, they are very activating. People report side effects of agitation/hypomania. If you decide to try them, I would start at a very low dosage just to see if you can tolerate it, and taper up slowly. In combination with antidepressants, I would imagine these side-effects would be increased.

While some sites recommend so-called "attack doses," it's probably not a good idea to ingest five grams of piracetam and not be able to sleep for days.
