The schizoid psychosis in this disorder can include visual and auditory hallucinations just as in schizophrenia. Someone I know had dinner on her porch with two people who weren't there. Interestingly, I observed a cycle wherein she became hypomanic first before becoming schizoid. If you could prevent the mania, you could prevent the schizoid psychosis and the subsequent depression. Her doctors never caught on to this and were not competent enough to treat the insomnia that fueled the mania. I could do only so much. Effexor + Zyprexa + Depakote + Ativan would have done the trick. This is a case where benzophobia cost this person her job and apartment. (I took liberties with the other treatment choices).
