In reply to Different SSRI's - sideeffects anyway?, posted by sdb on September 9, 2006, at 16:06:42

If they were, they wouldn't be marketed (with the exception of Celexa/Lexapro which are just metabolites and mostly patent extenders of each other). Yes, sexual side effects are a very common one, but particular SSRIs may not have as strong an effect in that direction -- unfortunately you had it on Celexa, which some regard as having less. They will all have some side effects, dry mouth, sexual effects, minor tremor, etc.
As with all medications, one has to say, well do I want to get better with X medication, is it helping me, and do I tolerate the main side effect. If the sexual side effects get in the way, there are a host of ways of getting around this from skipping a pill for short acting SSRIs to various anti-serotonin medications such as cyproheptadine, yohimbine [caution with this one], and the like, but of course none of those are perfect either. Better living through chemistry doesn't mean better living and no side effects, alas.
