As a supplement in 'The Observer' there was a supplement produced by LSE (London School of Economics) called 'The Depression Report - A New Deal for Depression and Anxiety Disorders'.
Its fabulous. I hope the government implement what it recommends. Its really very good - well at least its a start and better than nothing!!!
Points out alot of home truths. Essentially its saying that mental healthcare is rubbish in this country and it really effects the economny (not to mention the lives of us suffers) and NICE guidelines indicate that CBT is very useful, and wants basically 10,000 therapists to join the NHS and give CBT/therapy to all of us who need it.
Apparently a cost of therapy would cost £750 and this is alot less than, say, three months on unemployment benefits or incapacity benefits, or even lost productivity through time off work (things like that).
'Mental Illness is Britain's biggest social problem, affecting 1 in 6 of the adult population. The Mental Health Policy Group aims to throw light on what can be done about it. Its first major report proposes a psychological therapy service for depression and anxiety disorders, to be commissioned in every part of the country by 2013. This will involve training and employing 10,000 more therapists.'
