> Hi, any advise on my info is greatly appreciated.
> I have within the last 2 days stoped taking vicodin have been taking for 5 years for fibromyalgia. Have been taking more than suppose to for the last year or so after divorce (cheating husband). Anyway that's another story. I just ran out of vicodin and decided that's it. I am having withdrawals BAD... will it get better or worse. Is there anything to help? I do have xanxa that helps a little. I am at home doing this alone. No one in my family understands they think I'm just lazy. Can I do this? Is there a bright side to not taking them? I don't see it at this time. I hear everyone say how much better they feel. But those pills made me feel alot better than I do now. Please any help.!!!!I'm not your doctor, but there are other non narcotic treatments on the market for Fibromyalgia, which is beginning to be understood finally. Neurontin and Lyrica are under trials as well as other medications. Tricyclics in small doses are also used. I'm sure you've been through these though and you may have reason for your own treatment from your doctor.
Vicodin, like other opiates, complete withdrawal is generally not life threatening but rather uncomfortable. Diarrhea is common as opiates normally are constipating (hence Imodium.) General crawling on the wall and various states of delirium result from withdrawal such as heroin.
But I never would really advocate cold turkey from anything -- never for benzodiazepines, and almost never for opiates unless one discovers they are allergic to the substance. As suggested a more gentle taper. But I would discuss this with your doctor, not knowing him but I wouldn't think that you are the first person on this planet to exceed a dosage of prescribed medication. At any rate, if you decide to quit the medication in search of other forms of treatment, a slower taper would be better and the two of you will discuss refilling it and appropriate use of it I'm sure, either restoring it to its original dose or discontinuing.
And yes, the Xanax probably takes the edge off of things but also have due caution as to the amount used, as one can become habituated to it being a very short half life benzodiazepine.
You may also discover a need to use (generic or otherwise) Imodium for bowel related issues, but that will vary.
Best wishes-- Jay
